Mr. John S. Webb B.A, M. A,. LL.B.
John is a seasoned criminal lawyer, admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1973. John practiced in Calgary Alberta from that date until 1998, at which time he and his wife left Calgary to work in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for approximately four years. He has appeared many times in the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta, and the Alberta Court of Appeal, and is comfortable in these courts, anywhere in Alberta. John has appeared once in the Supreme Court of Canada, he has a natural affinity for the trial process. John confides that he is much happier in Court than at the office, especially if the appearance is a trial, and, a trial is what the accused actually needs.
Upon his return from the UAE in 2004-2005, John worked as a Duty Counsel for the Legal Aid Society of Alberta in Calgary on term contract to get back into the active profession. After that, he moved to Fort McMurray when the time had come to re-join the criminal defence bar.
During his offshore adventure in Dubai, John managed the Canadian Business Council at Dubai, working closely with Canadian consular, trade and diplomatic staff at Dubai, and, assisted Peggy Webb on the home front with her demanding job at Dubai Women's College, Higher Colleges of Technology, UAE. He also reports playing three great seasons on the D-Line, including road trips up the Gulf to Abu Dhabi, with the Dubai Mighty Camels Old Timers Hockey team. He is reputed to have arrived in Dubai with one suitcase containing a dark blue pin striped lawyer suit, his hockey helmet, his hockey gloves and, as the English expatriates say, his ice skates. Yes, desert hockey! When not at work in Fort Mac, John tends to be biking, skating, skiing, and, to a limited extent, rowing.
John holds a B.A. from the University of Alberta at Edmonton Alberta (1962), a Diploma in Public Administration from Carleton University in Ottawa (1963), and, an M.A. in International Relations from Carleton University (1965). He graduated from law school at Queen's University, in 1972.
